Gandhi Didn’t Quote That….

Daily Motivation 236

Every Wednesday I am sharing some WOW’s with you; my teachers; my influences and who I am inspired by.
I hope you enjoy!

Frank Buchman

We’re home from ten days in London where we stayed at Initiatives of Change UK headquarters and learnt even more about this movements historic relations with all countries and all faiths. Frank Buchman who founded IofC, known back then as the Oxford Group and then Moral Re-Armament (MRA) was friends with both Mahatma and Rajmohan Gandhi. In National Geographic’s top ten global influencers that you’ve never heard of, Buchman is there, having had a hand in rebuilding Europe after the second world war and being the instigator of Bill Wilson and Bob Smith setting up Alcoholics Anonymous in the 1930’s.

Yet I’m guessing, you’ve probably never heard of him.

Dom and I are committed to being part of the movement and bridging this magical moment in time between IofC’s rich and important history and its future in supporting nations coming together, and I believe those reading this blog are already interested in how they too could get involved with the new world that is emerging….

Rajmohan Gandhi spoke at the public event last week about a famous quote that has been attributed to Gandhi but was in fact first uttered from the mouth of Buchman; who was not as much interested in public speaking as walking into a room full of people and getting to know each one on a more personal level, and didn’t mind Gandhi getting the credit for something that he actually said.

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed”

The above quote I feel has many layers
And is enough for me to leave you to ponder on today
What does it mean to YOU?

I think over the years it will have meant something different to me at different stages of my life. Right now, today, it’s about veganism and how we live on such a plentiful earth who provides us with such a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds that I no longer feel that I need to eat anything else. A few years ago it was different, and this quote would have meant something quite different; so it has stood the test of time; is still relevant today, and I think perhaps we will all take something unique from it. Let me know what it means to YOU….

And do have a look at the Initiatives of Change website: www.iofc.org whose mission statement is “Initiatives of Change (IofC) is a world-wide movement of people of diverse cultures and backgrounds, who are committed to the transformation of society through changes in human motives and behaviour, starting with their own. We inspire, equip and connect people to address world needs, starting with themselves.”

When Dom and I read that for the first time we were astonished as it could have been taken from our own websites, as we hold the exact same philosophy; change has to begin WITHIN and we cannot expect it to materialise externally if we are not prepared to first look at ourselves….
