Daily Motivation 181
Next week I will be going into retreat in Scotland and Dom will have the house to himself and be getting on with planting seeds in his veg patch, and it got me thinking….
I have been doing this particular Buddhist retreat every year for the past ten and it has become almost like my yearly MOT. It brings me back to my centre and because it is always at the same(ish) time of year; just after Tibetan New Year, I get to reflect on the previous year; what has changed in me and in my world.
I remember up until about three or four years ago that this retreat would get me BACK into the swing of daily meditation, having got out of the habit. And when you are drinking excessively everything else takes a back seat, and ultimately one of my main reasons to stop in the end was because it was getting in the way of my practice; you cannot meditate with a hangover!
So I would journey up to Scotland at the beginning of Spring and clear the cobwebs and get back into the swing of meditation. Then a few years ago it all changed, with my firm daily practice already in place I would arrive at retreat ALREADY in a good place; this was a first as I usually needed the retreat to GET to that amazing place.
And so my life changed dramatically as I reviewed all of the previous years retreats, and was amazed as I saw my inner progress
I was super proud in fact
I was finally where I had always strived to be; putting my practice FIRST.
Meditation is the foundation of my life
It roots me into myself first thing in the morning and allows me to experience the day through those glasses
It is like sowing the seeds of what you really want in life, and then watching your dreams flourish throughout the day
We are creating fertile ground for anything to happen
So shouldn’t meditation become your number one priority?
And throughout time we have been given this message:
Proverb[edit]
‘As You Sow, So Shall You Reap’
- The personal consequences of one’s actions are in proportion to the good or bad intentions towards others.
Noun[edit]
‘Karma’
- (Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism) The sum total of a person’s actions, which determine the person’s next incarnation in samsara, the cycle of death and rebirth.
- A force or law of nature which causes one to reap what one sows; destiny; fate.
In different languages
In varying religions
There has always been a teaching around INTENTION and doing ones best
So this is nothing new
And meditation gives us
Space
Direction
Focus
and a place where we can gather ourselves and create this intention for our day
So when you are thinking about setting up your routine, please make sure that meditation is your priority. Get up 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes earlier and know that this very act is going to impact on your day in the most amazing way….
